The Protector of Day and Night.
Since experiencing hurricane Katrina within our Home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I have created a series of unique Protector Pieces fired in raku. This is the most recent Piece that came forth. In fact, I made it, experienced a back injury and was unable to complete it until recently. Since I am often very controlling with my work, firing in Raku FORCES me to relax a bit and to allow for the variations in glaze colors to emerge. Firing in this manner is very risky because the Art Pieces sometimes do not survive the process. This Woman's face resembles my Mother when She was younger. Each is unique and original, like each of us.
